IUM Cultural Festival 2018: ‘Adding Colour to your Culture’
As tradition, students and staff from all IUM Campuses beautifully dressed in their different cultural attires gathered at Palm Tree Park, Windhoek to witness the 2018 Cultural Festival official opening on 30 July 2018.
The five (5) day annual event, is dubbed the most important event on the IUM students’ calendar, and aims to create a platform to broaden and deepen the connection and understanding of different cultures among students and staff.
This year the event is being celebrated under the theme “Add Colour to your Culture” which serves to bring together the diverse Namibian and cultures from different countries within the IUM community by showing that all cultures are equally important and thus create a sense of appreciation for each other and each other’s cultures in the student community and beyond.
At the colourful official opening, different cultural groups performed their traditional dances and showcased their traditional food cuisines. The Kavango, Herero, Nama/Damara and Oshiwambo cultural groups-to mention a few-were among the groups that performed. The event will end of 03 August 2018 with the crowning of Miss and Mister IUM 2018 at the Nampower Convention Centre. Other festivities lined up for the week are different cultural groups and musical performances, exhibitions, oral storytelling on culture and heritage around a bonfire and cultural foods competition.
