The two different books which were launched last November are titled A life and Views of a Soldier: Author’s Perspective and Strategic Leadership and Management the Direction Pointers: Effective and Enabling Instruments to overcome Challenges of the 21st Century.
During the handover of the books, Lt. Gen. (rtd) Ndaitwah said that the donation was merely a modest contribution to the academic field and entire education sector. In general, he indicated that he would also make similar donations to other institutions of higher learning in Namibia.
Prof. Kingo Mchombu, Acting Vice-Chancellor, who was also present, expressed that the University was sincerely grateful to Lt. Gen. (rtd) Ndaitwah for his kind gesture.
Noting the need for more materials and resources in the Library at all Campuses, particularly books written and produced by Namibians, Prof. Mchombu said that the donated books would be most useful to both students and staff as they were written from a Namibian perspective.
Prof. Mchombu added that Lt. Gen (rtd) Ndaitwah set a good example to the academic staff and entire IUM academic community to start writing and publishing. He expressed confidence that the donated books will stimulate further research among staff and students on various socio-economic and academic aspects of society.
Speaking on behalf of the Library, Ms. Lucy Kiana, Librarian at IUM, expressed her appreciation for the valuable donation. The library being the heart of the institution, she said, needed to be generating energy to the entire body of the University and that could successfully be achieved when it (library) was equipped with relevant and vital materials such as books and journals. The book donation was thus a significant contribution to the Library book collection.
In addition, she vowed that the Library would market the books to all Library users as well as to ensure that the books were put to good use.
Copies of the books can be found at IUM Libraries across all its Campuses, namely, Main Campus in Dorado Park, Windhoek City Branch, Coastal Campus, Ongwediva Campus and Nkurenkuru Campus.
