Ongwediva Faculty of Education Hailed as a Success

26/09/2016

The Faculty of Education at IUM Ongwediva Campus is making significant strides by attracting numerous students. Introduced in 2015, the Faculty started off with only 27 students. This year 95 students have been registered.

The Faculty offers a Bachelor Honours Degree in Educational Leadership, Management, and Policy for professionals who already have a Namibia Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 6 or Level 7 qualification in Education and/or related disciplines.

The Faculty of Education is demand driven. The course is thus offered in order to train, equip, and provide management and leadership skills to qualified teachers and principals. This has been proven as a number of Principals, Heads of Department and teachers who are aspiring to become school leaders are in the majority of the correct intake of students.

Taking into consideration the circumstances of the registered students who are mostly teaching during the day time, the course is currently offered on a Part-time basis. Classes are offered on Fridays from 15:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays, from 08:00 to 18:00. In addition, a two-week vacation school is conducted during school holidays in order to meet credit time.

Principals and Heads of Departments who are registered welcomed this course and are already requesting IUM to look into the Masters Programmes as soon as possible.

IUM Ongwediva Campus is the second largest with a student population of just over 2000.
