On 28 July 2018, IUM students participated and scooped third place in the second edition of the tertiary Spelling Bee Championship which was held between students from the University of Namibia (UNAM), Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and IUM.
This was a friendly competition aimed at promoting the English language vocabulary as well as offering students a platform to test their grammar skills.
A group of fifteen (15) IUM students organised by the Language and Communication Department participated in the Championship. The competition was essentially among spellers and not Universities.
Spellers from UNAM won the first and second places, and Believe Chikwape, an IUM second year student studying Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management won the third place. She walked away with a trophy and N$ 2000 in cash.
In addition, all spellers (students) who participated in the competition each walked away with the latest edition of the Oxford Learners’ Advanced Dictionary, medal and bag.
The tertiary level Spelling Bee Championship was organised by the University of Namibia and sponsored by Sanlam.
