IUM and the Southern University & International Centre for IT and Development (SU-ICITD), USA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 04 September 2017 at Dorado Park Main Campus.
The IUM Faculty of Information Technology and Systems Development (ITSD) held a joint paper writing research workshop recently with UNAM as a way to improve the research capacity of its respective Faculty staff members.
NQA Pays Site Visits to IUM Campuses
A delegation from the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) paid site visits to all IUM Campuses from 23 to 30 August 2017. During the visits, fruitful discussions on IUM’s newly revamped curriculum were held. The new curriculum will be rolled out in 2018.
IUM Launches PhD by Research Programme
A recent significant landmark in the history of IUM was the official launch of its Research based PhD programme. The programme was launched by Dr. David R. Namwandi, Founder and Chair of the IUM Governing Council.
Strengthening Research at IUM
Among others, the policy emphasizes the importance of communicating research outputs through publications in academic peer- refereed journals, publications in professional peer- refereed journals, publication in non-peer-reviewed journals, and websites.
A technical team of four lecturers and students from the Faculty of Information Technology and Systems Administration is in its final stage of implementing its own designed software, named MyIUM Learning Management System.
As a way of bringing together and uniting all different cultural groups within the IUM community, on Monday, 31 July 2017 students and staff, and visitors gathered at Palm Tree Park in different cultural attires to witness the Cultural Festival official opening. IUM and the Walvis Bay Municipality recently expressed intent to collaborate in efforts to strengthen tertiary education at the coastal towns.
Following the launch of the Entrepreneurship Programme through the partnership with Mount Kenya University and in collaboration with the renowned Wadhwani Foundation, the University’s academics were trained through the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) programme. The training was facilitated by the Vice President of Wadhwani for East Africa, Mr Varsy Wanjau.

The IUM Centre for Improved Institutional Performance (CIIP) strives to improve professional management performance at all levels in the private and public sectors.
IUM is set to launch its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes soon. The programmes will be offered in four areas of specialisation, namely; Business Administration, Information and Communication Technology, Education, and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality. The programmes provide opportunities for students who have successfully completed their Masters Degree programmes in the relevant and/or related field, and who fulfil the requirements for admission.
In its effort to foster international cooperation in education and research, IUM is cementing its relationship with the Institute of Development Management (IDM) –Swaziland through activities as agreed in its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed two years ago. The MOU aims to foster collaboration in areas of, among others, research and teaching, exchange of information and publications, joint conferences organization, workshops
The International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on the 12 of May to mark the contribution Nurses make to society. The IUM School of Health Sciences joined their counterparts from UNAM, Welwitchia University, Paramount Healthcare Centre on the day at the UNAM Leisure centre to celebrate the day under the theme, “Nursing: A Voice to Lead, Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)”. The event was aimed at raising awareness amongst the Nursing profession, the general population and policy makers of what SDGs are and why they matter.
IUM and Wadhwani Foundation have signed a MoU on Entrepreneurship Development. Through this collaboration, IUM will introduce and/or strengthen entrepreneurship education through deployment of a systematic approach to optimise and increase the impact of lecturers and training programmes in entrepreneurship education.
IUM’s short course CIIP offers courses to improve professional management performance at all levels in the private and public sectors. This time around, the Centre has attracted a team from the Medical and Health Workers Union Nigeria (MHWUN) who sought its services to train its senior staff in Advanced Strategic Management.
IUM and the Municipality of Outjo signed a Memorandum of Agreement recently. The agreement states that IUM will run academic programmes in the town of Outjo.The University will, once again, expand its teaching, training, research, and community outreach to the Outjo community and its surroundings.
IUM and UNAM have signed a joint Declaration of Cooperation to expand on their existing working relationship on 16 February 2017. The agreement states (i) a collaboration among faculty and staff members in the areas of research, teaching, and other academic pursuits, (ii) exchange of visits by students, (iii) joint research activities, and (iv) exchange of information materials on education, training and research matters between the two Universities.
IUM Academic Year 2017 Officially Kicks off.
The IUM Windhoek Campuses' annual Academic Official Opening was hosted on 08 February 2017 at Dorado Park Main Campus as the Management, Staff and Students gathered in large numbers by means of one family. During his Keynote address, Dr. David R. Namwandi Founder and Chair of the Governing Council confirmed that, following humble beginnings over two decades ago, the University is still firm and progressing in line with its vision and mission.
Hon. Ester Anna Nghipondoka, Deputy Minister of Education, Arts and Culture delivered a motivational speech to the first intake of IUM student teachers on 07 February 2017at Dorado Park Main Campus. She highlighted the important role teachers played in the development of the country and called on student teachers to understand, at the onset, what it entails to be a teacher while they contextualised themselves by looking at the developmental stage of the country in line with global developmental trends.
