Knowledge Ambassadors Project Launched

The IUM Library recently launched the IUM- Knowledge Ambassadors Project. The project was implemented in partnership with Emerald Publishing in South Africa and aimed at developing information-literate library users – precisely students, as well as creating awareness of available library resources and services, and promoting their usage.

Faculty of ICT Develops New Qualifications

The IUM Faculty of Information Communication Technology and Systems Development is dedicated to providing a range of programmes that equip graduates with innovative skills to operate at international standards in business. The Faculty integrates its education and research programmes into a cohesive system thus providing students with modern technology platforms for relevant and industry-responsive education with a high degree of work-integrated learning.

IUM and the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia Train Pharmacist Assistants

IUM in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia (PSN) recently launched the two-year Certificate in Pharmacist Assistants programme at Dorado Park Main Campus.

Prof. Arowolo Appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor: Academic and Research

Prof. Oladele O. Arowolo has been appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Research at IUM effective from January 2018. Prof. Arowolo joined IUM in January 2017 as a Professor for Social Sciences and Coordinator for PhD programmes.

IUM and Bank of Namibia Enter into Internship Partnership

IUM and the Bank of Namibia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 30 November 2017 to, among others, establish an internship programme for IUM students to enable them gain practical experience and enhance employability skills at the Bank. The MoU will also enable the bank to participate in Career Fairs.

IUM Reviews Old and Develops new Qualifications

Over the past 18 months, IUM completed the review of its registered qualifications in consultation with stakeholders. The exercise resulted in the revision of 28 qualifications and 30 new qualifications thus bringing IUM’s total number of qualifications to 58.

Bringing Industry Experience to the Students

IUM recently signed a cooperation of Agreement with Edutus College, Hungary, in an effort to foster the internationalization of tertiary education and collaborate with reputable higher education institutions

Bringing Industry Experience to the Students

Faculties at IUM have a strategy of working closely with the industry experts in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice in learning, hence exposing students to the practical aspects of the industry and its practices by bringing the captains of industry to share their experience. As a result, the Department of Marketing Management under the Faculty of strategic Management recently held an Industry Guest Lecture for the fourth year students under theme “Recents Trends in Marketing.”

H.E Dr. Nujoma Applauds IUM’s Growth

The IUM 13TH Graduation Ceremony which was held on 29 September 2017 marked another significant milestone in its history. The graduation ceremony saw a total of over 2500 students from 19 different countries, including students from all IUM Campuses, receiving Higher Diplomas, Honours Degree and Master Degrees.

IUM to Start Training Pharmacist Assistants

The IUM Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia will start offering a two-year (2) Certificate programme in Pharmacist Assistants in the Academic Year 2018.

The IUM Faculty of Information Technology and Systems Development (ITSD) held a joint paper writing research workshop recently with UNAM as a way to improve the research capacity of its respective Faculty staff members.

NQA Pays Site Visits to IUM Campuses

A delegation from the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) paid site visits to all IUM Campuses from 23 to 30 August 2017. During the visits, fruitful discussions on IUM’s newly revamped curriculum were held. The new curriculum will be rolled out in 2018.

IUM Launches PhD by Research Programme

A recent significant landmark in the history of IUM was the official launch of its Research based PhD programme. The programme was launched by Dr. David R. Namwandi, Founder and Chair of the IUM Governing Council.

Among others, the policy emphasizes the importance of communicating research outputs through publications in academic peer- refereed journals, publications in professional peer- refereed journals, publication in non-peer-reviewed journals, and websites.

Faculty of IT Designs MyIUM Learning Management System

A technical team of four lecturers and students from the Faculty of Information Technology and Systems Administration is in its final stage of implementing its own designed software, named MyIUM Learning Management System.

Nurturing Entrepreneurship

Following the launch of the Entrepreneurship Programme through the partnership with Mount Kenya University and in collaboration with the renowned Wadhwani Foundation, the University’s academics were trained through the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) programme. The training was facilitated by the Vice President of Wadhwani for East Africa, Mr Varsy Wanjau.

Launch of PhD Programmes at IUM

IUM is set to launch its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes soon. The programmes will be offered in four areas of specialisation, namely; Business Administration, Information and Communication Technology, Education, and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality. The programmes provide opportunities for students who have successfully completed their Masters Degree programmes in the relevant and/or related field, and who fulfil the requirements for admission.

IUM cements partnership with IDM-Swaziland

In its effort to foster international cooperation in education and research, IUM is cementing its relationship with the Institute of Development Management (IDM) –Swaziland through activities as agreed in its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed two years ago. IUM Celebrates International Nurses Day

The International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every year on the 12 of May to mark the contribution Nurses make to society. The IUM School of Health Sciences joined their counterparts from UNAM, Welwitchia University, Paramount Healthcare Centre on the day at the UNAM Leisure centre to celebrate the day under the theme, “Nursing: A Voice to Lead, Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)”. The event was aimed at raising awareness amongst the Nursing profession, the general population and policy makers of what SDGs are and why they matter.

IUM to Establish a Student Entrepreneurship Development Programme

IUM and Wadhwani Foundation have signed a MoU on Entrepreneurship Development. Through this collaboration, IUM will introduce and/or strengthen entrepreneurship education through deployment of a systematic approach to optimise and increase the impact of lecturers and training programmes in entrepreneurship education.

IUM Stretches its training wings to West Africa

IUM’s short course CIIP offers courses to improve professional management performance at all levels in the private and public sectors. This time around, the Centre has attracted a team from the Medical and Health Workers Union Nigeria (MHWUN) who sought its services to train its senior staff in Advanced Strategic Management.

IUM and Outjo Municipality Sign a Memorandum of Agreement

IUM and the Municipality of Outjo signed a Memorandum of Agreement recently. The agreement states that IUM will run academic programmes in the town of Outjo.The University will, once again, expand its teaching, training, research, and community outreach to the Outjo community and its surroundings.

IUM and UNAM Sign a Cooperation Agreement

IUM and UNAM have signed a joint Declaration of Cooperation to expand on their existing working relationship on 16 February 2017. The agreement states (i) a collaboration among faculty and staff members in the areas of research, teaching, and other academic pursuits, (ii) exchange of visits by students, (iii) joint research activities, and (iv) exchange of information materials on education, training and research matters between the two Universities.

IUM Academic Year 2017 Officially Kicks off.

The IUM Windhoek Campuses' annual Academic Official Opening was hosted on 08 February 2017 at Dorado Park Main Campus as the Management, Staff and Students gathered in large numbers by means of one family. During his Keynote address, Dr. David R. Namwandi Founder and Chair of the Governing Council confirmed that, following humble beginnings over two decades ago, the University is still firm and progressing in line with its vision and mission.

Deputy Minister of Education, Sports and Culture addresses IUM First Student Teachers.

Hon. Ester Anna Nghipondoka, Deputy Minister of Education, Arts and Culture delivered a motivational speech to the first intake of IUM student teachers on 07 February 2017at Dorado Park Main Campus. She highlighted the important role teachers played in the development of the country and called on student teachers to understand, at the onset, what it entails to be a teacher while they contextualised themselves by looking at the developmental stage of the country in line with global developmental trends.
