About IUM
History
The International University of Management (IUM) which has its roots in the Institute of Higher Education (IHE) was founded in 1993. This is a home grown Namibian initiative that started with one student and metamorphosed into an establishment catering for over 1,000 (one thousand) students with a main campus in the capital Windhoek and branches in Swakopmund, Ongwediva and Walvis-Bay.
Following the establishment of IHE, the institute quickly gained recognition as a centre of excellence for the teaching of management subjects and carried out numerous consultancies for both the private and public sectors in Namibia . The Management courses were offered on behalf of international, professional, and academic institutions.
On 26 October 2002, IUM was officially launched by the then State President of the Republic of Namibia , His Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma. The university is fully accredited by the NQA (Namibia Qualifications Authority).
Why IUM is the University with a difference
IUM students are not only focused but conscious of their social and economic environment which is inherent of the University's operations.
IUM academic programmes are aimed at the needs of the country as well as the regional and international community. They address those areas where there is a generally agreed need, demand or national opportunity.
IUM programmes develop future managers and the wealth creators of society. The social aim is to impart positive, goal-achieving attitudes that value self-reliance, self-development and that recognize the importance of teamwork in the workplace. These values and creativity are fundamentals for the effective young managers of the future.
IUM students embrace the best of theory, not as an intellectual end in itself but as the raw material of sound practice. The best principles and practice of management are based upon well-tested theory. The University is organized and resourced to make positive contributions to their development in the global context.
IUM is the first in Africa with The Case Writing House. This deals with research, editorial control and publication. This will complement the existing American and European Cases.
IUM is the first of its kind in Africa to have the Faculty of HIV/AIDS. This Faculty is unique to Africa . Given the magnitude of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the continent the importance of such a faculty cannot be over emphasized.
