IUM receives N$150 000 donation.
WINDHOEK – The International University of Management (IUM) last Thursday received a donation of N$150 000 to upgrade its resource center and improve on its information technology (IT) integrated management system.
The donation was made by German national Nils Clausen, who has built up an excellent relationship with IUM over the past few years.
Clausen, who owns an IT business company called Clausen Business Intelligence in Germany, said his donation was spurred by his conviction that the spreading of knowledge is imperative for global economic growth.
The German pledged to set up a fundraising association that will engage both the public and private sectors in assistance to the private university.
On his part, the Minister of Education, Nangolo Mbumba, said the donation came at a very opportune time, as the private university is currently expanding with the construction of a high-tech campus in the Dorado Park residential area, now in progress.
“Given IUM's track record, I am sure the money is going to be used for the intended purpose as IUM endeavours to play its part as a contributor to tertiary education in Namibia,” Mbumba said.
He challenged local businesses to follow suit.
The minister also had special words of praise for Clausen, who despite his youthful age of 36 years, chose to donate money to an institution of higher learning in a country he previously never visited, but only came to know through the Internet.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of IUM, Dr David Namwandi, expressed hope that the donation would mark the beginning of a long-term mutually beneficial relationship of co-operation. Namwandi said the private sector has a role to play in assisting the government with the provision of knowledge and skills to the citizens of the country to create a knowledgeable society.
